Malcolm Knights Biog

Malcolm KnightBorn in North London in 1953, a 6ft 5ins tall, married, retired Policeman.His sporting activities include athletics, rugby, basketball, hammer throwing, wrestling, tug-of-war, running, canoeing and skiffing.Following a secondary education in North London Malcolm joined the Metropolitan Police Cadets where his sporting interests moved up a gear.

He represented the Cadet Corp nationally at hammer throwing, wrestling and rugby and the Met. Police in tug-of-war. Having previously trained for the junior Devizes to Westminster canoe race he participated in the senior race in 1985 following this ten days later by running the London Marathon.

Skiff sprint racing became his principle sport in 1986 successfully moving up through the ranks becoming national Skiff Champion in 1991. In 1987 Malcolm enjoyed his first long distance rowing event completing the non-tidal Thames (124miles) over a leisurely three days. The following year saw him complete his first of four World Records by sculling, in a crew of three, the length of the River Thames (186miles in 39.5hours).

Over the following years Malcolm has added the records for longest distance rowed non-stop in 24 hours (141 miles), crossing the English Channel (22 miles in 2hrs 42mins) and rowing from London to Paris (480 miles in 4 days 10hrs 15mins).

As an active member of Dittons Skiff & Punting Club and Leander Club he anticipates another successful charity raising record row.
