Well done guys, I am writing this after our 2nd attempt this year, and know fully how hard this is to complete. We will be back next year, hopefully with the same crew, to finish what we nearly did this year!! Thanks go to Richard for the picture of the sub, this has focused our minds a treat. Once again guys, well done!

Martin Hirst BRC

The Thames Traditional Boat Society congratulate Dittons Skiff & Punting Club on their record-braking row from Lechlade to Southend Pier. They are particularly pleased that the record was broken using Sgian Dubh (correct spelling - Gaelic for Black Knife!) which was donated to the Society by David Warren, who died earlier this year, and who would have been particularly gratified by the result. The quadruple skiff was built for David by Mark Edwards and John Cox at Richmond Boathouse to take part in the 1994 Great River Race with his family as crew. Sgian Dubh has taken part in this race with various crews every year since.

James Cracknell

What an amazing achievement, how did you keep richard awake for so long !!

No seriously, an outstanding and awesome (no pun intented) time that looks set to stand for some time congratulations to you all a well deserved record.
Phil Harris and family, hope to be down soon to buy a round.

Congratulations to the Dittons crew on the success of their Meander and the stunning time. Two minute locks at the top end must have helped. We were delighted to be part of the team.
Well done,
John & Susan Greenford

Dear all
I would like to thank the amazing support team who made this mission a stunning success. Without all your help we would have never have done it. There was never a low point in the boat, how could there be with such enthusiastic encouragement, there are too many people to thank some looked more knackered than us! This was Dittons at its best you are all World Record Holders! your ever grateful
Captain John X

We should be thanking you - you really were very good giving up so much of your time during this world record attempt. I know the crew appreciated your efforts and having you as the "timekeeper"!
Imogen O'Neill

Well done all of you - what a tremendous achievement. Saw that you were featured in the Sports section of the Sunday Times - you have really made it!! Looking forward to LOTS of content for the next DSPC Newsletter. See you at DSPC soon for your autographs!
Claire Wade

If you hadn't been so fast, I'd have seen you at Culham (tho' I did manage three other locks). If only I had a pole long enough your record would be shaky - but a thousand congratulations on shattering the record.
Graham Summer

To all the support crew - A BIG Thank you for everything you did, it was an absolutely fantastic club effort, but, if you ever let the Leif do anything as daft again, you will ALL feel my wrath.....
The fragrant Joan, Presidents Wife

A fantastic achievement. This record will stand for many years to come as I feel they will have frightened off all other attempts. Many thanks to all those who gave their time to help them.
Adrian Holder

Wow! Didnt they do well.
What a fantastic performance by the rowers on Friday and Saturday. Well done boys! Also I have nothing but praise for all those lock workers who got them through 44 locks so quickly - and those who took the cruiser through the night. Not forgetting everyone else who lent a practical hand with food, transport etc. Special credit also to the Web team, who really brought it to life for everyone and the follow up is brilliant too. Meanwhile best of luck to our entrants in the Irish Sea crossing next week
Tim Tomlinson

A fantastic result from a fantastic team of 6 rowers and a brilliant support crew. We are very proud to be associated with you.
Isaac Lord

Heartfelt (and bottom-felt from Colin ....) congratulations to you all - we are all delighted with your amazing achievement and look forward to celebrating with you all soon.

Well done guys, we tried last year with a three man crew but had to pull out at Wapping due to inclement weather ( we were a couple of hours up not 6). All the best from Tolworth Gym Club and the crew Adrian Harper,Steve Foster & Paul Gibbons. Now you have really put the gauntlet down but we need to find three other mad men to be in with a chance. Enjoy your record and sleep well as I know you will!!
Adrian Harper, Tolworth Gym Club

Dear GMC, fantastically well done. great personal and team achievement and very good for the club too. I was not surprised but I am delighted. Look forward to the celebrations!!!

Congrats to those who rowed and ALL the team behind you. Magnificant effort. We watched the early part in admiration and supported the rest of the way in spirit.
Chris, Susan, Alex and Chrissie Stoke

Congratulations; I could only feel happier if I had been good enough to get in the Crew and do as well as you all have done. Another Great Dittons achievement. And well done the Support Team. We are all absolutely delighted.
George Brigitte and Marc [although he doesn't know he is delighted, yet!]

Congratulations to you all. Your World record is a marvellous and incredible achievement, for which you your families and the club should be very proud. A congratulatory card I once saw seems equally appropriate now, "You worked your Butts off!"
Well done.
The Pemberys

David Matthews
