Dittons Skiff & Punting Club Code of River Safety when the Environment Agency (“EA”) Warning Boards (Yellow or Red) are displayed at Teddington Lock

When the EA Warning Boards (Yellow or Red) are displayed at Teddington Lock the following rules shall apply to all Club members and their guests.

1. Before any member may boat, permission must be obtained from two members of the Panel (see definition below) who are aware of the prevailing river conditions. In order to give any such permission the two Panel Members must be in agreement in respect of their evaluation of the river conditions and take into consideration the experience of the member/s requesting permission to boat. Any permission granted shall only apply to the member(s) to whom it is given and for that outing only.
2. No craft going upstream shall pass under Hampton Court Bridge and ALL craft going downstream shall turn at “The Ram” Public House (200 metres upstream of Kingston Road Bridge).
3. In the hours of darkness no crew or individual will be allowed out when the Red Board is displayed.

“Panel” means a panel consisting of the Club Captain and Vice-Captains who may agree between them to appoint additional responsible Club members to the Panel. The Panel Members shall have responsibility for evaluating river conditions between the locks at Molesey and Teddington. The Club Captain and Vice-Captains who may also agree to remove any members from the Panel.

This Code is mandatory for all members with NO EXCEPTION. Any breach will be subject to disciplinary action by the Executive or full Committees.

Club members with private boats using the Club’s facilities must comply with the rules set out in this Code as a condition of their membership.
