Skiff/skif/n. A rowing boat or sculling boat, of wood: that can be propelled by one person (single), or two (doubles), rowing one pair of oars (blades) per person.
Skiffing/skifin}/n&v. Act of: rowing a skiff on the River Thames NEAR YOU. Does not require overwhelming commitment (unlike rowing clubs); great for getting and staying fit; making new friends; maintaining a healthy bank balance (much cheaper than a health club!)
Punt/n.a. a long narrow flat-bottomed boat of wood, square at both ends, used mainly for pleasure on rivers; propelled using a long pole by one person (single), or two (doubles).
The Club is a very busy place, with a varied social events calendar. Tuesday nights is club night with food and of course the bar open, and don't forget Thursday's circuit training in the gym starting at 7.15pm. Come and meet new friends and join in the fun. It is the best way to relax and forget the stresses and strains of daily life.
If you have a family and want your children to enjoy the river, bring your children down on a Sunday morning at 10am and join in the fun.
Dittons Skiff & Punting Club was formed in 1923. The club has a very active membership with involvement in many events. From the annual regatta's to special events such as the London to Paris endurance event and the Great River Race. International visits from and to foreign shores.
